If such is possible for a non-fiction book, this one is a page turner. The subject is one everybody has pondered: What happens when we die? A serious journalist, using myriad interviews, offers surprising answers. (And a white light is NOT from a lack of oxygen!) Her interview subjects -- doctors, neuroscientists, people who have come back from death -- have surprising and persuasive things to say. Bachrach moves beautifully from one chapter to the next. She is not selling a point of view, but rather revealing information that is hard to come by -- some of it, I'm willing to bet, previously unknown to most people. I began reading as a skeptic and amazingly (to me) gradually found it possible to believe that Death is nothing to fear and can, in fact, can be... well, heavenly. If you have ever wondered what happens when we die, this is the book for you. It can change your mind about all that you thought you believed.
